VSP EXTENDS PRIMARY EYECARE BENEFIT TO VSP MEMBERS

Vision Service Plan (VSP) members already have the backing of one of the strongest vision insurance companies in the United States. There are several plans that VSP offers, but one that gets unnoticed the most is their Primary EyeCare plan. This plan allows patients to visit one of the participating VSP doctors for acute and sometimes chronic diagnosis. Think pinkeye, infections, foreign body removal, etc. Instead of waiting for hours at urgent care or the ER to visit someone who might see an eye problem twice in the month, you can instead visit Dr. Bladh, who sees almost 2 eye problems per day. Not only is the experience alone worth the PEC plan, the time you wait to see Dr. Bladh is less than half the time you would wait to see an inexperienced doc at urgent care!

The only problem with the PEC plan under VSPs umbrella of options is the fact that most employers opt out of these services and figure you can go see your primary care physician instead. Well, with the recent COVID-19 pandemic upon us, wait times at these facilities have gone through the roof and doctors and nurses are overworked. VSP saw this back in April and decided to offer their Primary EyeCare plan to all members that have an existing VSP plan. It may be a small thing, but any chance we can alleviate doctors and nurses burdens just a little bit is a win in our book.

The original announcement came April 1st (insert April Fool's pun here) and we were told it would only last until April 30th, but when VSP saw how much good it was doing, they decided to extend the benefit another month. My guess would be it extends until things get back to normal, but your guess is as good as mine. In the meantime, if you're having itchy eyes, discharge, or need a piece of metal removed (yes, it happens several times per year. Metal removed from someone's cornea...) please don't hesitate to contact the office and make an appointment with Dr. Bladh. He has over 30 years of experience and has pretty much seen it all. During the month of April he was available for emergency eye exams only so we know exactly what to do and who to talk to at VSP in order to get your visit paid for.
